This Spring 2009 semester has been eventful. Please check out events, below, that have occurred, and will be occurring.

Artichoke Afternoons  artiolor_10.jpg

Many students have been attending Artichoke Afternoons with Molly Lamm and Alicia Dimond, Student Services Specialist, in the ACE Office. We are so glad that many are participating. These activities are mandatory for all those enrolled in class at SCC through the ACE Program. Every ACE student MUST attend and participate for ONE hour out of the provided sessions each month.

In March we focused on bringing ACE students up to speed with their Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID) numbers and how to use the Student Information System (SIS). We also explained the procedure to complete an Academic Progress Report (APR). All ACE students must have made an appointment with an SCC Counselor to review their completed Academic Progress Report by April 8th. Two items due April 20th by 5pm are the Senior Exit form (neon green sheet for Seniors only) and the Letter of Gratitude (pink sheet for ALL ACE students). If any of the above has not been completed by their expected due dates, they are still expected to be completed.

April's Artichoke Afternoons focused on Scholarship searches. ACE students were explained what a FAFSA (FREE Application for Federal Student Aid) is and given a worksheet to complete. This worksheet required ACE students to locate three scholarships they fit the criteria for and to begin writing, or brainstorming, for their personal statement; a requirement for many scholarships. Juniors have been asked to turn in a personal statement by May 7th at 5pm.

May's Artichoke Afternoons were spent registering for a Fall 2009 course. All Juniors were expected to attend in order to get their schedule set for the fall 2009 semester. ACE students also participated in a 'DREAMS' activity. Every one enjoyed May's Artichoke Afternoons.

Any ACE  student who was enrolled in a Spring 2009 course at SCC, should have attended all three Artichoke Afternoons. If an ACE student did not attend an Artichoke Afternoon, they are still expected to make up the work they missed.
