Reading Assignment
- Read Chapter One: Introduction in Criminalistics 9th Edition by Richard Saferstein.
- Read the following sections off of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences website:
- What is Forensic Science?
- What Do Forensic Scientists Do?
- What's a Forensic Scientist?
- Kinds of Forensic Science - Criminalistics (The "Criminalistics" section is the only assigned reading in
the "Kinds of Forensic Science" section, but you can read more, if you want.)
The American Academy of Forensic Sciences website address is www.aafs.org.
Once at the site, click "Resources" at the top of the page and then click "Choosing A Career."
- If you are interested in crime scene processing, check out the webpage of the International Association for Identification at www.theiai.org Pay particular attention to the IAI's "Training" and "Job Listings" pages. No test questions come from the IAI website.
- Read the additional information contained in this course's "Lesson One: Supplemental Information."
Test
This test is on all of the reading materials assigned in the reading section for lesson one. You may only take this test once, so do it as best you can the first time. This is an open book test, so you should do very well, assuming you put in the effort.
It is advisable to take the test off-line on the printed copy of the tests provided to you at the start of the course. After you complete the test on the printed copy, you can then enter your answers on the online form and submit the test. Then you will have a copy of the test with your answers. Later when I email you a list of the questions you answered wrong, you can find the correct answers and change them on your personal printed copy of the test. This printed copy of the test with all the correct answers will be a valuable study guide for the final exam.
Be sure and check to see if you answered all the questions before you hit the submit button.
