On December 15th 2005, Coach Doug Madoski was handed the reins of the Scottsdale Community College Football program by a supportive administration looking to once again return the football program to a dominant level in the state of Arizona.

During his first season at the helm of the Scottsdale Community College Football Program, Madoski led the program to a 6-4 overall record, a 6-2 conference record, and a final national ranking of #16, despite playing what many believe to be the toughest schedule in the conference, as he played five games against programs ranked in the top 10 nationally.  By season’s end, not only was the Scottsdale Football team ranked nationally, but individually the offense and defense both finished ranked in the top 20 nationally of all community colleges.  During the 2006 campaign Coach Madoski saw many players be awarded with post season honors, including eight All Region/All Conference selections highlighted by SCC school record holder Tony Fein being named All-American by two reporting agencies, as well as awarded as the WSFL conferences Defensive Player of the Year.

Prior to accepting the position of Head Football Coach, Doug served as the football teams Defensive Coordinator/Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach for three seasons, helping the Artichoke Football Program secure a school record 9 wins during the 2004 campaign.  Coach Madoski oversaw a defensive unit during this season that also set school records for overall defense, run defense, sacks and turnovers all in route to a number two overall national ranking.  During his three seasons as the football teams Defensive Coordinator, Madoski’s defense has statistically achieved the number one and three spots in school history for total defense.  Doug was also a member of the Scottsdale Football Program coaching staff for two seasons even prior to becoming the Defensive Coordinator.  During those seasons, Coach Madoski served as the Defensive Line Coach and Specials Teams Coordinator.  Doug also coached one season at his junior college alma mater, San Joaquin Delta Community College in Stockton, CA as the schools Offensive Line Coach.

Before becoming a football coach, Doug amassed an impressive playing career that included brief stints with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, and the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League.  Coach Madoski was selected as an All-Conference and All-State Defensive Lineman for the Utah State University Aggies where he also led the team in sacks and tackles for a loss during his senior campaign.  Prior to accepting a scholarship to Utah State University, Doug was a two year starter on the defensive line for San Joaquin Delta Community College, where he was selected as an All-Conference, All-Region, All-State, and All-American.

Off of the football field Doug also excelled in the classroom earning his Associate of Arts degree from San Joaquin Delta Community College, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a second in Political Science from Utah State University.

“Football provided for me a means to the end so to speak.  I was blessed with the opportunity to have my athletic ability pay for my education, and my education has provided me with all of the opportunities that I have had in my life.  In my mind you cannot place a price tag on that.  The sport of football taught me essential lessons and gave me certain qualities that I feel imperative for success in life.  To fight through adversity, to understand commitment, to want to win in all that I do, whether on or off of the field, to win at life, to work hard, and to understand that often times those who work the hardest eventually gain the most.”

“As a coach you must believe in the program that you are working in.  I believe that Scottsdale Community College, and the football program have the right people in place to be successful.  We have great facilities that include a new 3,000 square foot weight room, a huge locker room, a tremendous amount of practice field space, and a continued commitment from the administration to build facilities that will rival those found on many four year college campuses.  I also believe that you must have the right people in place with you in order to be successful.  Another sign of the great support shown by the administration for the athletic department to be successful is found in the fact that SCC employs two Strength and Conditioning Coaches that implement, and monitor both in season and off season strength, conditioning and nutrition.  Personally I believe in Scottsdale Community College, and their commitment to excellence for all of our students for these reasons, and so many more.”

“Without question as a former junior college football player, I understand the trials and tribulations that all student-athletes go through.  We all see and think we understand what the “good life” is for athletes, the phenomenal facilities, full ride scholarships and 100,000 cheering fans.  The community college system allows student-athletes an opportunity to get to this point in their lives.  These opportunities however never come without hard work, sacrifice, and determination from not only the individual athletes but of their families and loved ones as well.  We tell our athletes constantly that if you will do everything that is asked of you, in class as well as on the football field, and you do it with great effort then you will be successful.  You must commit yourself to becoming more successful than others.”

Moving players on to the next level is of the utmost importance to Madoski.  Since arriving at Scottsdale, placement numbers of athletes to four year institutions have consistently hovered in the 90% range.  “Student athletes come to a community college to have another chance at a bigger goal.  As a former community college player, I take great pride in emphasizing placement of our athletes, and want to see them succeed years down the road not just on the field, but in life.”  In addition to overseeing the development of more than 60 All-Region/All-Conference players, Madoski has had the opportunity to work during his time as the head football coach at Scottsdale Community College with eight athletes that have had the opportunity to play football at the professional level.

Doug and his wife Mindy have lived in the Phoenix area for the past eight years.  They are also the proud parents of two children, Averee (8 years old), and Christian (4 years old).

In April 2006, Coach Ziegler married former Ironwood High School graduate Brandi Ziegler (formerly Thompson).  They had a baby daughter, Camdyn, in October 2008.

Coach Carver enters his fourth year of coaching at Scottsdale Community College, as the football programs defensive ends coach, a position that he not only played, but played extremely well, both in collegiate competition at Arizona State University and professionally in the National Football League (NFL), Arena Football League (AFL) and in the XFL.

Shante, originally from Stockton, CA made his way to Arizona, after signing a national letter of intent to attend school and play football at Arizona State University.  While on the field for the Sun Devils, he blossomed into a dominant force on the defensive line under the tutelage of coaches such as Bruce Snyder (former Head Football Coach, ASU), Lovie Smith (Head Coach of the Chicago Bears, NFL), and Rod Marinelli (Head Coach of the Detroit Lions, NFL).  His ability and work ethic allowed him the opportunity to break the Sun Devil career sack record, (since broken by Terrell Suggs, currently in second place all time), become a first team All-American, and led him to become a first round draft pick of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, pick number twenty-three overall (1994 NFL draft).  After leaving the Dallas Cowboys organization, Shante continued his professional playing career in the XFL, as well as in the Arena Football League.

Coach Carver continues to maintain tremendous relationships with former coaches and teammates and strives to seek their knowledge about the game of football.  Since retiring from football, Shante has returned to Arizona State University to finish the required two classes needed to obtain his Bachelor's degree.

Carver is single, and lives in the Scottsdale area.

Professional achievements:

  • Set school record for career sacks at Arizona State University (since broken by Terrell Suggs)
  • Selected in 1st Round of 1994 NFL Draft Pick #23 overall
  • Played in and won Super Bowl XXX in Tempe, AZ as a member of the Dallas Cowboys
