 Artichokes Qualify for Indoor Nationals March 6, 2009 By: Katie Logan Seven of our outstanding female athletes will be representing Scottsdale at the Indoor Nationals held this weekend March 6-7 in Lubbock, TX. The following Artichokes will be competing this weekend:

 

Janell Richardson - Pole Vault, High Jump
Marissa Von Gunten - 800m, 4X800m, Distance Medley relay
Sabrina Nelson - 4X800m, Distance Medley relay
Nicole Powers - 4X800m, Distance Medley relay
Janet Echols - 4X800m
Betty Spivey - Distance Medley relay
Staci Rimbach - Pentathlon, Shot Put, High Jump

Records Continue to Break, Track! Feb. 3, 2009 By: Katie Logan

The Lady Artichokes continue to break their own records! Over the weekend at the GCC Indoor Track meet (1/30-31) both Sabrina Nelson and Betty Spivey set new records, breaking their previous records. Nelson, won the 3000M setting the new record at 12:14.65. Placing 3rd in the 60M Hurdles finishing in 9.73, Spivey broke her own record . She is just half a second away from going to the Indoor Nationals.

Six Records Go Down, Indoor Track! Jan. 26 By: Katie Logan
This weekend the Puma Indoor Meet was a great outing for the Lady Chokes. Six Artichokes set new school records and One Choke, Janell Richardson qualified for Nationals!
 
Marissa Von Gunten broke the school record finishing 2nd in the 600m with a time of 1:49.02.  Betty Spivey finished 5th in the 60 meters hurdles, breaking the school record with a time of 9.95 sec. Sabrina Nelson broke her own school record in the 3000 meters with a time of 12:29.99. Staci Rimbach placed 2nd in the shot put and broke the school record with a throw of 9.45 meters. Chanelle Johnson won the triple jump and broke the school record with a jump of 9.82 meters. Janell Richardson broke her own record in the pole vault with a jump of 2.81 meters which qualified her to Nationals.

January 28, 2008 Men's and Women's Track
Men's and Women's Track team set new records at Glendale 
 
Saturday at Glendale, both the Men's and Women's Track Team participated in their first meet. The running Artichokes came out with an impressive showing setting numerous records. Both the Men and Women successfully broke four individual records.
 
Sabrina Nelson competed in the 300 meter race posting a time of 12:53.70 breaking the previous school record. Janelle Richardson successfully reached a new record height in the pole vault at 2.55 meters making her the all-time school record holder. Janelle and Kelsie Conway successfully cleared matching heights in the high jump at 1.55 meters placing them in a tie for the school record. Kelsie also matched a school record in the 60 meter sprint with a time of 10.62 sec. Both Kelsie Conway and Janelle Richardson will look forward to competing in the National Tournament after posting qualifying heights in the high jump.
 
The Men of Scottsdale also successfully posted four individual school records. Carlos Lopez posted an outstanding time of 4:19.08 in the 1500 meter run placing him on top of the school record books. Ryan Cain continued the record setting trend Saturday when he threw the shot put 13.43 meters and the weighted throw 12.42 meters giving him two school records. Rounding out the record setting day was Jacob Kane who soared to new heights in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.12 meters. Jacob was excited to set a new school record, but unfortunately he came up just short of qualifying to Nationals. Both the Women's and Men's track team have high hopes when they compete in the upcoming meets.

Outdoor Track Heads to National Championships 
The 4x800 meter relay team of Amy Ellerman, Morgan Thomas, Emily Gallagher, and Stacey Aguayo journey tomorrow to Coffeyville, Kansas to compete in the NJCAA Outdoor Track National Championships.  Morgan Thomas also qualified to compete in the 800 meter individual race.

ARTICHOKES RUN WELL AT DARTMOUTH COMBINED EVENTS
 Several Artichokes finished in the top ten of multiple events at the Dartmouth Combined Events hosted by SCC on March 22-23.  Amy Ellerman placed 4th in the 400m hurdles and posted a personal best record throw in the javelin after taking 5th.  Morgan Thomas put up two personal record times with a 2nd place finish in the 800m and a 7th place finish in the 1500m.  Stacey Aguayo finished 3rd in the 400m hurdles and participated in a 4x400m relay race that also placed 3rd.

SCOTTSDALE GARNERS FIVE ALL AMERICAN AWARDS  Scottsdale finished out the NJCAA Indoor Championships with a 20th place finish along with five All American nods.  The 4x800 relay team of Stacey Aguayo, Amy Ellerman, Morgan Thomas, and Emily Gallagher placed 6th, earning each All American Status.  In the individual 800 meter race, Morgan Thomas finished 5th overall and earned her second All American award.  Thomas was the first US-born finisher in an internationally heavy race.

RELAY TEAM QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS 
Amy Ellerman, Morgan Thomas, Stacey Aguayo, and Emily Gallagher met the qualifying time for the 4 x 800 meter race at the NJCAA Indoor Championships by combining their individual 800 meter race results.  The group will travel to Lubbock, Texas and compete for a National Title on March 2nd through March 3rd.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM COMPETES AT NATIONALS On October 26th, the Women's Cross Country team, coached by Josh Trask, competed in the Region I Championship. With a 5th place finish, the Lady Artichokes qualified for Nationals. The ladies represented Scottsdale Community College with a finish of 33rd in the Nation. Six athletes on the Cross Country team ran their best time of the year, and the team time of 1:51:14 was the Artichokes best combined time of the year. This is the second time in ten years that the Lady Artichokes have competed in Nationals.

SCC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PLACE 3RD At the Mesa Thunderbird Cross Country Classic on September 21st, SCC Women's Cross Country placed 3rd overall with 74 points. With a combined team time of 1:58:53.40, the ladies broke the previous SCC team time of 2:04:40.61. The top 5 SCC ladies set personal records and are as follows: Amanda Holley 10th- 20:57, Sabrina Nelson 11th- 21:06, Jenny Gerena 28th- 24:39, Kim Gunning 30th- 24:59, Casandra Ottinger 34th, 27:43.

DAVE MURRAY INVITATIONAL AT UofA September 14, 2007 in Tucson, Arizona the Lady Artichokes placed 8th overall and 4th for Junior Colleges at the Dave Murray Invitational. This Cross Country team set a new team combined time record of 1:38:29.31, which is the fastest team finish in over 10 years. The top 5 SCC ladies and their overall finishes at the Invitational were as follows: Amanda Holley 22nd, Sabrina Nelson 27th , Kim Gunning 31st , Jenny Gerena 32nd , Kelsie Conway 34th .
 
GEORGE KYTE CLASSIC AT NAU:. The Women's Cross Country team placed 5th overall and 3rd against other junior colleges in Flagstaff at the George Kyte Classic on September 1st, 2007. They completed the 3rd fastest combined time recorded in over 10 years. The top 5 SCC ladies and their overall finishes at the Classic: Amanda Holley 34th, Sabrina Nelson 42nd, Jenny Gerena 43rd, Kim Gunning 45th, Lindsay Novascone 50th
