Remaining Consistent, Soccer-- October 6,2008 By:Katie Logan
Artichoke Soccer keeps consistent with .500 winning percent! Early last week Scottsdale put forth a valiant effort only to fall short to nationally ranked 8th and undefeated Chandler-Gilbert (10/1). The tough loss only gave Scottsdale more heart as they headed into their next game versus Cochise(10/4). The ' Chokes came out strong, determined to gain another victory. After a tiring battle Scottsdale finally captured the win defeating Cochise 2-1. The victory over Cochise puts Scottsdale just one point away from securing the 4th place position in the conference and qualifying for regionals.
Keep being consistent 'Chokes, it will pay off!

Five Conference Wins, Soccer! by: Katie Logan
Scottsdale soccer defeated DI Cochise (9/3) for their first 2008 season victory. The ‘Chokes came out and scored in the first period. Cochise tied it up in the second to take it into overtime. ‘Chokes Kaila Hoshor scored in OT to end the game with a final score 2-1.
The next week Scottsdale soccer racked up two victories as they beat both their opponents. First defeating Gateway (9/10) for their first on the road victory of this season, final score 1-0. Three days later the ‘Chokes smashed Glendale (9/13). Kaila Hoshor scored in the first period to give the ‘Chokes the lead. With only a minute remaining in the second period, Lexi Dahl scored to end the game with a 2-0 victory for the ‘Chokes.
The last two Saturdays have been very successful outings for the ‘Chokes. First defeating Mesa (9/20) 2-0. And then annihilating South Mountain (9/27) 4-0! Two of our ‘Chokes place within the leading players for the conference; Julia Anglin reaches the top with 6 goals for a total of 12 points and goalie Janelle Richardson ranks 4th in conference with 1.24 goals against average.
Great job ‘Chokes, keep the bringing in the victories!

New Facilities Kick Off the 2008 Season--September 1, 2008 by Katie Logan

After only one season, Women’s Head Soccer Coach Rand Weiskittel has already taken drastic steps for rebuilding and developing the Women’s Soccer Program. With Coach Weiskittel’s fresh ideas and attitude and SCC’s brand new state-of-the-art multi-purpose complex, the Women’s Athletic Department is expecting great things from the Lady ‘Chokes Soccer Team in the upcoming season. The new multi-purpose complex rivals any of the top competitors’ facilities and is one of the best in the conference; allowing SCC to configure three fields allotting for more space and availability for practices. Weiskittel is ecstatic with the new complex and believes it will undoubtedly have a positive effect on his team. He will be able to conduct more efficient practices and better prepare his players for the next level, a four year University.

With high-quality facilities and extensive team depth, a play-off berth is an attainable goal for the 2008 season. All ACCAC Honorable Mention, Sara Valasakos returns this season along with Nicole Fares, Michelle Fierros and the remaining six sophomores. This core group of returners is now more familiar and comfortable with the challenging ACCAC conference. “The combination of incoming and returning talent allows for more options,” says Weiskittel. “There will be a lot of room for development and healthy competition for playing time; there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to contribute and compete for success.”

Good luck Women’s Soccer as you kick off the 2008-2009 season!
