Saturday Sophomore Night, Soccer

Did you know?...Saturday October 16 is Sophomore Night for Women’s Soccer! The Chokes prepare to take on Paradise Valley in the last home game of the 2009 season. The game will start @ 4:30pm and will take place in the Football Stadium.

We will be honoring our Sophomore class for all the time sacrificed and dedicated towards strengthening and further developing Scottsdale Athletics.  Sophomores on the soccer team are: Julia Anglin, Elyse Cavolo, Lexi Dahl, Jessyca Eagle, Kaila Hoshor, Jassy LaMar, Rebecca Mosher and Adriane Zajda.

Scottsdale Athletic Department would also like to thank those who have supported the Chokes. Your support is essential to the success of the team and is greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you out there Saturday night!

Winning Streak Soccer

Three wins in a row for the Chokes as they defeated Cochise College in overtime yesterday! Two seconds remaining in the first half, Nikki Talamante kicked a 25 yard shot to put the Chokes in the lead. Moments into the second half, Cochise tied up the score. Scottsdale’s Molley Ward made a great break on the ball half way through the second half and put another goal in. Minutes later, Cochise tied up the score yet again taking the Chokes into overtime.

About four minutes into overtime, freshman Lindsay Standifer darted down the field to shoot and score ending the game.  The final score 3-2. Hopefully this win moves the Chokes up in the rankings as they are currently placed third in the conference. Come out and support the Chokes as they take No.1 in conference, Pima College Monday October 12 @ 4:30pm in the football stadium.

Fantastical WIN Soccer!
Yet another fantastical win for our Women’s Soccer team as they defeat Phoenix College 4-2 yesterday. Our Women’s Soccer program has kicked it into gear showing no mercy as they kept pushing and attacking the Bears all game long.
Much of the team’s success stems from the leadership from first season Head Coach, Skelly Kellar. Kellar has done a phenomenal job strengthening the already solid foundation that former Head Coach Rand Weiskittel created. Coincidentally, Weiskittel now serves as Assistant for Kellar. Together, along with Assistant Brian Thames they form a stellar coaching combination that develops and educates our young ladies into outstanding students, athletes and citizens.
Chokes Roll On
Lady Chokes Soccer keeps rollin’ on through their opponents. Coming from behind on Saturday, the Chokes fought back and held Chandler-Gilbert to a 1-1 score, taking the Coyotes to double overtime! The tie puts the Chokes at third place in the conference with 5 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie.
Not one, but two of our Lady Chokes received Player of the Week. Sophomore defender, Julia Anglin was the glue defensively for the Chokes in shutting down Gateway 3-0 (09/23/09) and holding Chandler-Gilbert in a tie. Freshman goalie, Andie Brookhouser was Keeper of the Week. Blocking 3 shots in the shutout against Gateway and then stopping 13 out of 14 shots against Chandler-Gilbert.
Congrats Chokes! Come out and watch the Chokes take on Glendale College tonight @ 4:30pm in the football stadium.

Close Battles Strengthen the Chokes Sept. 17, 2009

Women’s soccer had no problem continuing their winning streak, shutting down the Cougars of South Mountain 3-0 (Saturday 09/12). Casey Grant had 2 assists; first assist on goal made by Julia Anglin, second assist for goal shot by Areyanna Tyerina. The remaining goal was scored by Crissy Parmer with assist from Molley Ward.

A few days later (09/09) the Chokes lost their first game this season against DI Cochise College. It was a gruesome battle to the end, only to lose the game 1-0 on a terrible call. It was another close battle for the Chokes as they fell short of beating Pima College (09/14). The Chokes came out ready and attacked first. Scoring the first goal, Nikki Talamante off a beautiful 25 yard shot from assist pass from Jessyca Eagle. Scottsdale ended up losing 2-1.

Close battles keep the Chokes hungry for victory as they take on their next victim, Mesa Thunderbirds today Wednesday September 16 @ 1pm! Come enjoy the sun and support women’s soccer on your lunch break. The game will be on the multi field complex located north of campus, behind the softball field.

Undefeated Heading into First Home Game, W Soccer
Lady Artichokes remain undefeated as they head into their first home game of the 2009 season. In a teeth clenching battle, the Chokes came out on top defeating Glendale College 2-1 (08/29/09 )in their first regular season and on the road competition.
Last evening (09/03/09) the Chokes proved to be victorious on the road again as they beat up on the Bears of Phoenix College, winning 3-1.  The first goal was made off a hard shot from the left side of Casey Grant that was redirected into the goal by a defender. Short thereafter, Nikki Talamante slid home for the second goal off of a great cross by Becca Mosher. The final goal was scored on a breakaway by Kaila Hoshor on a great thru ball from Lexi Dahl. Goalie, Ashley Ketron had 3 saves.

To catch all this excitement and more, come out and support our Lady Artichokes in this season first home game as they take on the Cougars of South Mountain this Saturday September 3 @ 4:30pm! The game will be held in the football stadium located on the northwest side of campus.

Soccer Star Brings Light to Ecuador  Feb 10, 2009 By: Katie Logan

Artichoke starlet, Lexi Dahl shines not only on but off the soccer field as well. After a successful fall season, Lexi decided to extend her light towards children in need of help. In March, Lexi will embark to Ecuador for an once-in-a-lifetime experience working for Orphanage Support Services Organization.

OSSO is a non-profit charitable organization that provides services and support to over 10 orphanages in Ecuador. Lexi plans to take on-line courses to further her education while working abroad. She will return after the semester and rejoin Scottsdale and the soccer program upon arrival.
