Scottsdale Reaches Top in NJCAA Stats March 5 2009 By: Katie Logan

Despite the not so satisfying team record, many Artichokes still reach the top in individual stats across the nation. Leadoff Tawny Swan ranks 8th in the nation with .500 batting average, 20 hits and 7 runs scored in 13 games! Following closely behind is catcher Jen Solich, ranking 31st with .389 batting average, 3 RBIs and 3 runs in just 7 games played.

Fresh to the charts, short stop Ashley Gonzales ranks 36th, knocking in 6 RBIs in just 13 games with 37 at bats. Many 'Chokes reach the stolen bases charts; Swan ranks 4th  with 6 (for 7) stolen bases, Teesha Gregersen 10th with 3 (for 3) stolen bases, and both Breann Ferradino and Gonzales 2 (for 2).

Regardless of the challenging schedule the team must endure with key individuals continuing to climb the charts it is only inevitable that team success with flourish. Press on 'Chokes!

Sophmores Break Stride in Season Feb, 23 2009 By: Katie Logan

The 'Chokes are off to a slow start this season obtaining one victory so far in seven games. It has been a tough start for Scottsdale as they have already faced nationally ranked opponents, Yavapai College and Chandler-Gilbert CC. None-the-less the team continues to persevere and know that more victories are on the horizon.

Leadership from our sophomores is increasingly prevalent. Three of our four sophomores lead the team in batting averages. Leadoff/Centerfield, Tawny Swan ranks high in the conference and leads the team with .542 batting average, 13 hits, 5 runs and 2 RBIs. Starting catcher, Jen Solich places second on the team with .333 batting average. Closely behind Solich, is newcomer sophomore Demy Hardesty. Hardesty who currently bats second in the line-up as a utility/pitcher is batting .308 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored for the 'Chokes.

While these individuals have done great work so far, there is a lot of impressive play from other 'Chokes that doesn't reach the charts. Keep contributing as a team and work together, a great season is in due time!
