Smash-tastic! March 4, 2009 By: Katie Logan
Just call our women's tennis team "Smash-tastic!". In their last two contests, the Artichokes have annihilated their opponents defeating each team 8-1. The 'Chokes first shut down Mesa (02/19/09) and then crushed Paradise Valley (02/26/09). The two wins put Scottsdale at a 2-2 overall record. A loss is always unfortunate, none-the-less the two the 'Chokes have accumulated were well fought battles that could have gone either way, both losing 5-4.
Coach Dan Kilen is very pleased with everyone's performance so far. "Our no.1 Sue Hogland continues to hold down the court, playing very smart. Newcomer, Casey Kindig is adjusting well and playing great in the no. 2 spot. Both Briana Jauregui and Lianna Wimberly have beeng playing great in doubles and singles."
Come support the 'Chokes in their upcoming matches this week:
Tues. March 3 vs. Pima @ Tucson 1:30pm
Wed. March 4 vs. Saint Benedict @ Scottsdale 1:00pm
Thurs. March 5 vs. Glendale @ Scottsdale 1:30pm
Triumphant in First Tournament, Women's Tennis -- Feb. 12 2009 By: Katie Logan
Lady Artichokes prevail in first outing, taking 1st place in the MCCD Jamboree. No easing into the swing of things with this team! The 'Chokes fought hard and established themselves true competitors. Artichoke pair, Leanna Wimberly and Brianna Jauregui were undefeated in doubles.
Newcomer, Casey Kindig made it all the way to the championship round. She was down 2-5 and persevered a long battle to capture the victory; as a result sealed 1st place in the tournament for her team. Quite an accomplishment for the first outing.
What a great way to start! If this season continues upward, SCC will not be surprised to see our Lady 'Chokes contending for a national title.
