Federal Work Study Program

What is Federal Work Study?
Federal Work Study (FWS) is a program that provides students with funding that will allow them to earn money at a part-time, on-campus job to help with educational expenses.

How many hours may Federal Work Study Students work?
Students are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week while school is in session and there are no exceptions. This is a Federal Government requirement. Students may work up to 40 hours a week during the holiday breaks in the fall semester, spring break and up until the last day of finals in the spring semester while the campus is open.

How do students become a Federal Work Study?
1. Students must apply for FWS through the Financial Aid Office (SC-152). You may request FWS when applying for financial aid. You will be required to complete a Work Study Request Form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office. If eligible you will be awarded Federal Work Study and receive an award letter from Financial Aid. More information is available at the Financial Aid Website.

2. Once you receive your award letter from the Financial Aid Office, you are required to attend an orientation in the Career & Cooperative Education Services Office (SC-123). The Work Study Orientation is designed to assist you, as a work study student, through the steps of applying for work study positions. Each student MUST attend a Federal Work Study Orientation prior to viewing jobs available or submitting a work study student application. No one will be allowed to apply for work study positions without completing this orientation!
