About the SCC MILE CLUB

The SCC MILE CLUB is an opportunity for SCC students, faculty, and staff members to challenge themselves to improve their fitness levels by covering 100, 200, or 300 miles in 100 days. Miles are accumulated using the following modes of exercise (if you have special needs that prevent you from doing the exercises on this list, we will be glad to make adjustments for you):

· Running / Jogging / Walking (on a treadmill, indoor track, outdoor track, or any other course where you know the distance)
· Elliptical Trainer (made by Precor or Life Fitness)
· Cybex ARC Trainer (you will receive 2.5 miles for every mile you go on the ARC)
· Step Mill (made by Stairmaster)
· Crossrobic Stepper (made by Stairmaster)
· Concept II Rower (enter the meters you row and the computer will convert to miles)
· Swimming (enter miles, meters or yards and the computer will convert to miles)
· Bike (actual or exercise bike)( You will receive 1 mile for every 4 miles you cover on a bike)

New for FALL 2009
· All old accounts have been deleted, so everyone will need to register for the MILE CLUB at www.scottsdalecc.edu/mileclub
· When you register, you will choose which MILE CLUB you are attempting to join (100, 200 or 300 miles in 100 days). If you complete the amount of miles you are attempting or more, you will get a shirt indicating that you are a member of that MILE CLUB. If you do not complete the number of miles you were aiming for, you will not get a shirt for a lower mileage level.
· Miles that you complete on the ARC trainer will be multiplied by 2.5. So, if you complete 1 mile on the ARC, you will receive 2.5 miles of credit toward your MILE CLUB total (just enter the actual miles and the computer will make the conversion). The reason for this is that the ARC is stingy with the miles it ‘gives’ you for your workout. We determined that multiplying by 2.5 makes it more in line with the miles you would receive for a similar amount of effort on other machines.

Rules to Remember
· The 50% rule. You can get as many miles as you like by running, jogging, or walking (up to 100%). However, you can only get up to 50% of your miles from any other single mode of exercise. For example, you could not become a member of the MILE CLUB by only using an elliptical trainer.
· The bike conversion. You will get 1 mile of MILE CLUB credit for every 4 miles that you ride a bike (either an exercise bike or a real bike). Again, this makes it more in line with the miles you would receive for a similar amount of effort in other modes of exercise.

New EQUIPMENT Conversion
