Program Overview
PERU: THE INCA TRAIL
June 1 - July 1, 2010
(In Peru: June 12-27)
Led by SCC’s Journalism Coordinator, Julie Knapp, participants will travel to the heart of the ancient Inca Empire to photograph the archeological mysteries of Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley and surrounding architecturally sophisticated ruins, all with the soaring snow-capped Andes Mountains as a backdrop.
They will participate in Inti Raymi (winter solstice), march through the streets of Cusco with its citizens in celebration and tour the churches, museums and historical sites as they discover and capture the rich history and the modern culture of the Andes highlands.
They will also experience the peaceful daily lives of the rural highlands indigenous people who still cultivate the land the way the Incas did 500 years ago. Participants will live with Peruvian families and give back to the communities through two service projects.
