Define plagiarism…
"Plagiarism is defined as the unacknowledged use, as one's own, of work of another person, whether or not such work has been published." Regulations Governing Conduct at Examinations, p100. The University of Hong Kong Calendar 1998-99 .
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as: (1) "...to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own: use (another's production) without crediting the source." (2) "...to commit literary theft: present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source."
"Ethics, copyright laws, and courtesy to readers require authors to identify the sources of direct quotations and of any facts or opinions not generally known or easily checked."-- Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition (Chicago: Chicago Univ. Press), p. 594
